Deeple QR Tags come in two versions: with a time-limited service period included or with a "lifetime" (unlimited) service period. For time-limited QR Tags, extensions to the service period can be bought at deeple.com.
Will Deeple Tags prevent theft?
Probably not on their own.Deeple QR Tags are mainly designed for situations when the owner accidently forgets or loses his items. To prevent theft - or at least make life hard for thieves - you will need more permanent measures such as etching or engraving. Some Deeple users have had their Deeple ID code laser engraved into iPads and other Apple products bought online (a free service from Apple) making their latest gadgets difficult objects for thieves to trade. Example: 'Found my iPad? Contact me here: deeple.com ID: XXXX XXXX XXXX' The advantage of engraving a Deeple ID rather than personal details is that you may pass on a Deeple QR tag to another owner (should you decide to sell or give away your item).
Are people really that honest?
Yes. When we fear loosing our things we normally think about theft. However, many times when we forget or drop something, it is picked up by an honest person who wants to help bring it back. Every year, thousands of keys, mobile phones, bicycles etc. are handed in to public Lost & Found offices by people who want to help (despite this method rarely being effective). The vast majority of the population wants to help - especially if it doesn't require too much effort. You can find real 'finder stories' and much more at Deeple's facebook page.
Are stickers with name or phone number no good?
Yes. The good old sticker that you might have attached to your lunchbox at pre-school is great! And it still works in many situations! However, sometimes it might be better with another solution. For instance, for bicycles or items where it's important to use a tag that can handle everyday outdoor wear and tear and the changing of the seasons. And when it comes to house keys, of course, one should never attach a name, phone number, or other traceable information! If you want to make it easy for finders to help get your lost things back, it is a advantage that the tag you choose carries a QR code that can be read by a smartphone. If your items are lost abroad, it is also an advantage that deeple.com provides instructions for finders in several languages.
How durable are the tags?
It may sound rather geeky, but at tag is not just a tag. It's durability depends on a lot of factors such as the surface of the item you attach it to, the adhesive and material of the tags, physical wear and tear, whether the tag is used outdoors or indoors etc.
We cooperate closely with our suppliers to ensure that our tags are of high quality and durable for their intended purpose.
So the answer is: Very durable - as long as they are used as intended.
How does Deeple work?
Deeple makes it easy for finders to help you get your things back when you lose them. By applying a unique Deeple QR Tag to one of your belongings finders may reach you by simply scanning the QR code of the tag. Alternatively, they may go online and enter the Deeple ID code at Deeple.com. When you activate a tag it gets linked - anonymously - to your email address and your Deeple profile. The latter is where you administer your tags and communicate with finders. If you happen to lose one of your Deeple QR tagged belongings, please find the procedure here.
In order to scan QR codes you will need a smartphone. Most modern smartphones come with a built-in QR scanner as part of the phone's camera. If your smartphone does not have a QR scanner app you can download one for free from Google Play (for Android) or Apple's App Store (for iPhone). We recommend Google's Barcode Scanner for Android app, since it is easy to use and does not show any ads or the like. No matter the make of your smartphone you will be able to find multiple different options by searching for apps with the search term 'QR Reader'.
How do I apply Deeple tags to my belongings?
It depends on the item. Tags for bikes, laptops, books etc. are all adhesive, and therefore it can be a good idea to make sure that the surface is clean before applying the tag. Alcohol or similar detergents are recommended, since they remove grease effectively, but for sensitive surfaces you might want to go for a milder approach. You decide where on the item to apply the tag. However, for bicycles we recommend to follow the guidelines that come with the tags regarding placement.Tags for suitcases, bags and keys work similarly to ordinary keyrings and just need to be attached to the item in question. QR Tags for bags and keys come with a small steel wire that they can easily be applied to larger items.
Help! My phone is not able to scan QR codes
You need a smartphone with a QR scanner app in order to scan QR codes. With most modern Android and iPhones you can use the built-in camera of the phone (without extra apps) to scan QR codes. If you don't have a smartphone, don't worry - you can still use Deeple! In this case you can just use the Deeple ID code on each tag instead. It works just as well as the QR code!
How do I activate my Deeple tags?
You can activate your Deeple tags as soon as you receive them. Either you can activate each tag by scanning the QR code with your smartphone, or you can do it 'manually' on deeple.com. Here is the direct link: deeple.com/activate.
Can finders who scan my tag see who I am?
No. The only information available to finders is whether the item has been reported as lost along with the message you might have left to finders on the custom webpage of each particular tag.
Can I apply QR Tags to any kind of belongings?
Yes, you may use Deeple QR Tags on any item of value to you as long as the QR Tag fits the item. This could be on your college text books, in the neck strap of your pet, on your favorite power drill or your boyfriend (that is, if you can make the tag stick!).Our QR Tags are designed for a variety of purposes, which is indicated for each type of tag. Be aware that using them in an alternative manner might make them wear out faster.
For how long can I use my Deeple tags?
Deeple tags are yours forever - unless you decide to hand them over to someone else, or deactivate the tag because you don't use the item anymore. Some QR Tags come with a time-limited service period, which is initiated once the QR Tag is first scanned (or ID entered at deeple.com). For tags with a time-limited you can always buy extensions to the service period - even after the tag has 'expired'. This can be done in the Deeple webshop.
The unique QR and Deeple ID codes on each tag will never be reused by Deeple later on for new tags.
